Moroccan security forces reportedly intervened to disperse a demonstration in Smara on April 4, 2013.

Security forces supported by the auxiliary forces used batons and sticks to disperse the demonstrators in the Tan Tan quarter of the city and chased the demonstrators in the streets and alleys of the neighborhood. The Saharawi human rights activists Rgueibi Taleb Hmad and Mohamed Bouhanana were allegedly beaten for their participation in the demonstration.
