The authorities of the local prison in El Aaiun reportedly assaulted a Saharawi political prisoner on April 4, 2013.

The director of the local prison of El Aaiun, Abdel Lalah Zanfouri, was said to have beaten the human rights activist and political prisoner Abdel Aziz Berray. He was also reportedly denied certain rights, although no specifics were given as to the nature of these allegations.

The Saharawi human rights defense group CODESA confirmed that Barray was beaten for explaining the conditions of detention and imprisonment of Saharawi political prisoners to a Commission that had visited the prison several days prior.
